ORLANDO AREA NEWS - JANUARY AIRPORT TRAFFIC UP 3%

Orlando International Airport’s January passenger traffic — both domestic and international combined — was up nearly 3 percent compared to the same time last year. Overall, traffic increased 2.93 percent, with the airport reporting nearly 2.8 million passengers in January. Domestic traffic went up 2.76 percent, with 2.5 million domestic passengers. International traffic increased 4.63 percent in January, with 256,974 international visitors. In 2009, total traffic at Orlando International was 33.6 million passengers, with domestic traffic of 30.7 million.

ORLANDO AREA NEWS - HOTEL OCCUPANCY RATES AT 65%

Orlando hotel occupancy for the week of Feb. 21-27 was 64.9 percent, a slight increase of 0.6 percent from 64.5 percent in the year-ago period, said Smith Travel Research. Average daily room rates in Orlando were $100.23, down 5.4 percent from $105.94 in the same week in 2009. Revenue per available room — a barometer of the hospitality industry’s health — was down 4.8 percent from $68.34 last year to $65.06 this year.
