Why a Vacation Home is Better than Staying in a Hotel

If you plan to spend frequent holidays in Central Florida with your family, you should consider investing in a second home, rather than stay in a hotel. Vacation homes in Orlando offer many of the same amenities you’ll find in a hotel, as well as some other big advantages. Here are a few reasons why it doesn’t pay to stay in a hotel, year after year.

Not enough space – Fitting a large family into one hotel room is no easy feat. There’s the problem of where everyone will sleep. Siblings will probably have to share a bed, which is often a recipe for disaster even among children that normally get along well together. Plus, you’ll have to take turns sharing the bathroom, which can be another huge hassle. You can always rent another hotel room, but that can get costly, and now you have the challenge of keeping an eye on your children, if they’re not in the same room as mom and dad.

Lack of amenities – Some families try to save money for their holidays by booking a cheaper hotel. But you sacrifice amenities when you do that, so you wind up with a room that doesn’t even have a mini fridge, no iron/ironing board, and no washer/dryer. Even a family of four that is vacationing for more than a week will likely run out of clean clothes. That means paying for expensive laundry service at the hotel, or the inconvenience of dragging your clothes to a local laundromat.

Limited ability to fix meals – Many hotels provide a mini fridge and microwave in their rooms, which can be helpful for warming up restaurant leftovers. But your family will still wind up eating out most of the time, which can get quite expensive. And restaurant meals aren’t necessarily that nutritious for your family either.

Loud neighbors – Another major disadvantage of hotel stays is that you never know who’s going to be in the room next to you. They may decide to play loud music just when you want to relax after a long day at Disney World. Or you may have to deal with a bunch of loud kids running around.

When you own an Orlando vacation home, you get plenty of space for your family, a full kitchen to cook your meals, a washer/dryer to handle laundry, and depending on the community, amenities such as a game room, resort-style swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course or water park! Plus, certain communities in Central Florida, especially near Disney, are zoned for short-term rentals, which means you can generate extra income by renting your home to other holiday visitors when you’re not using it. That’s a win-win!
