Orlando International Airport Plans New South Terminal to Handle Passenger Growth

The Orlando International Airport (MCO) has received spending approval from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority Board to begin construction of a new South Terminal Complex. Renowned airport architect Curtis Fentress is handling the project. Fentress created the Denver International Airport and Incheon International in South Korea, considered two of the best-designed airports in the world.

The $1.8 billion south terminal is expected to be completed by 2019, and will feature a sleek outside design, and an interior that represents aspects of Central Florida: light, water and the state’s unique foliage.  The project will feature an area known as The Boulevard, which will be a corridor running the length of the terminal and connecting to ground transportation, check-in, retail and security screening in a straight line.

The south terminal is needed to accommodate projected passenger increases at the airport. With more than 40 million annual passengers, MCO is the second busiest airport in Florida and 14th busiest in the U.S
